View the Important Dates.The Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) encourages eligible Medicaid recipients to complete high school by providing tuition assistance for qualifying certificate or associate degree program and during the student’s bachelor’s degree program. These two periods of assistance are referred to as ‘Phase I’ and ‘Phase II’. Mott Community College is a Phase 1 participating institution.
To meet the financial eligibility requirement a student must have (or have had) Medicaid coverage for 24 months with a 36 consecutive month period as identified by the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS). Only students who were identified by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) as having met the Michigan Medicaid eligibility requirement may apply for TIP. Students must be enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program, registered in a minimum of six credits each semester and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in order to maintain eligibility.
Mandatory fees cannot exceed $450 per semester. Total cumulative TIP Phase I benefits cannot exceed 80 credits. Students must begin using TIP at a participating institution within four years of high school completion. All program eligibility expires ten years after initial enrollment. The Michigan Competitive Scholarship program is available to an undergraduate student pursuing their first degrees at an approved Michigan Postsecondary institution. Awards are based on both academic merit and financial need.
To be eligible for MCS a student must file a FAFSA prior to the MCS application deadline and achieve a qualifying SAT score the year the student completed high school or its recognized equivalent. Students must be registered in a minimum of six credits each semester, minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements in order to maintain eligibility.
Awards are restricted to tuition and mandatory fees and pay up to a maximum of $1,500 for the academic year at participating institutions. MCS eligibility ends for a student after receiving a bachelor’s degree, completing the equivalent of ten semesters (or term equivalent), or when a student has been out of high school over ten years, whichever occurs first. Current and future awards are subject to available and approved funding. Other gift aid may reduce this award.

To have MCS awarded at MCC: Complete the FAFSA by MCS application deadline of May 1st. Students will be awarded based on the roster sent to the school by the State of Michigan.
The Children of Veterans Tuition Grant provides undergraduate tuition assistance to students older than 16 and less than 26 years of age who are the natural or adopted child of a Michigan veteran. The veteran must have died or became totally and permanently disabled as a result of military service.
An application is required and can be completed through the MiSSG Student Portal. Students must be registered in a minimum of six credits each semester, minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.25 and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements in order to maintain eligibility.
Undergraduate students may receive $2,800 scholarship assistance per academic year up to four academic years and a total of up to $11,200. Future awards are subject to available and approved funding.

To have CVTG awarded at MCC: Students will be awarded based on the roster sent to the school by the State of Michigan.
The Fostering Futures Scholarship provides scholarships to students who have experienced foster care in Michigan on or after age 13. Students must also demonstrate financial need to qualify.
The 2023-24 FFS application is currently available and the priority deadline is August 1, 2023. Students must be registered in a minimum of six credits each semester and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements in order to maintain eligibility.
Awards are restricted to tuition and mandatory fees, books and supplies, and room and board, and pay up to a maximum of $3,000 per academic year at participating institutions. FFS is available on a first-come, first-served basis to undergraduate students. MI Student Aid determines the maximum award amount annually. Other gift aid may reduce or cancel this award.

Futures for Frontliners (F4F) is a State of Michigan scholarship program for frontline workers; Michiganders who worked in essential industries during the state COVID-19 shutdown in spring 2020. F4F provides a pathway for tuition-free access to public community colleges to earn an associate degree or an industry recognized certificate for frontline workers without a college degree. Futures for Frontliners will not pay for courses outside of your program of study.

Michigan Achievement Scholarship is now The Community College Guarantee providing a tuition-free certificate or associate degree for recent high school graduates at their local community college. The Community College Guarantee is part of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship: Beginning Fall 2024, students from the Class of 2023 and beyond are eligible for the Community College Guarantee, which includes: In-district tuition, contact hours, and mandatory fees. An additional $1,000 living expenses award for students eligible for a Federal Pell Grant.

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a Federal program designed to provide early intervention services and programs to students in middle school and high school. Michigan GEAR UP (MI GEAR UP) targets low-income students by providing them with support services to increase their opportunity to succeed in postsecondary education.
To be eligible a student must successful participate in the MI GEAR UP program and receive a nomination. Nominated students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA ). Students must be registered in a minimum of six credits each semester and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements in order to maintain eligibility.
Selected nominees may receive a scholarship for up to two academic years to be completed within four years from the date of graduation. The scholarship expires at the end of the Academic Year 2027-28 (Summer 2028). The maximum award amount a student may receive is $2,000 per academic year (beginning 2023-24). The lifetime maximum award is $4,000.

Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver As of July 1, 2010, Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver applications are processed by Michigan Department of Lifelong, Education, Advancement and Potential (MiLEAP).
Application details and instructionsMichigan Reconnect is a scholarship program that pays for students 25 and older and Reconnect Expansion pays for students 21-24 to attend their in-district community college and offers a large tuition discount if students attend an out-of-district community college. Students can use the scholarship to complete an associate degree or a skill certificate program.

The Michigan Education Savings Plan is a qualified tuition plan or Section 529 plan. It is a flexible, tax-advantage program designed to help families invest for future college costs. Students must notify the MESP office of their choice to attend MCC prior to the semester they will be attending.

To have MESP awarded at MCC: Students will need to complete a tuition request form with the MESP office. The MESP office will then send a check to MCC. Once MCC receives the check the funding will be applied.
The Police Officer’s and Fire Fighter’s Survivor Tuition Act provides for the waiver of tuition at a Michigan community college or public university for children and surviving spouses of Michigan police officers and fire fighters killed in the line of duty. The program is intended to provide an educational benefit to the spouse and children of police officers and fire fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities and the citizens of Michigan.
An application is required and can be completed through the MiSSG Student Portal. Eligible students must apply for the first time before the age of 26. Students must be registered in a minimum of six credits each semester and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements in order to maintain eligibility.
Program eligibility ends when a student has received a bachelor’s degree or after completing the equivalent of nine (9) semesters or 14 terms (124 semester hours or 180 term hours). The eligible college or university may waive tuition only for courses applicable toward a certificate or degree in which the applicant is enrolled. Tuition may be waived only to the extent that the tuition is not covered or paid by any other scholarship, trust fund, statutory benefit, or other source of tuition coverage. Future awards are subject to available and approved funding.
