What is Michigan Reconnect?

Michigan Reconnect is a free tuition program for Michigan residents 21 years and older [1].

More specifically, Michigan Reconnect is a last dollar state scholarship program that pays the in-district tuition and mandatory fees only after Pell and other tuition-only scholarships and grants have been applied. Reconnect will not pay the difference in the out-of-district cost.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old when you apply [1]
  • Have been a Michigan resident for at least one year prior to application
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., a GED)
  • Have not yet earned an associate or bachelor's degree

How to apply.

Some more details on the program:

  • Recipients will need to resubmit their FAFSA each year.
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) or 2.0 grade point average in all classes while in the Reconnect program at the end of the academic year
  • The scholarship covers in-district rate and mandatory fees only. It does not cover the cost of books or allow for a student to be issued a refund.
  • You may only pursue one program of study at a time, if you have more than one active program of study on your account your scholarship will be pended until resolved.
  • Reconnect will not pay for courses outside of your program of study
  • The duration of the scholarship is limited to four years or until the completion of recipients’ associate degree.

The Financial Aid Office will prevent your courses from being dropped for non-payment if you register by the semester's payment deadline date (see Important Dates). If you register after the payment deadline date you must notify the office in order to prevent your courses from dropping.

After the first week of the semester, your award will be adjusted based on your enrollment. The Reconnect scholarship will pay-out based on your contact hours after the start of the semester. The tuition breakdown can be viewed on the In-district Tuition page.
