If These Shoes Could Talk: A Tribute to Ann Saab was held on May 4, 2016 in MCC's Event Center and was a huge success. The community responded by filling the room to capacity to celebrate Ann's contributions to the community, to Mott College, and to MCC's Women In Education program.
Day of Giving was held April 19, 2016 by reaching out to alumni and friends of the college for a gift through social media and a newsletter, as well as connecting with current students through a new "Dough for Donuts" campaign where students contribute any monetary amount for a donut or apple. Tables, manned by the Alumni Association and volunteers, were set up at 3 locations on campus to facilitate student access to the donuts/apples. The day was a great success.
Black History Month Luncheon "Cuisine & Culture" was held at Applewood Cafe on February 18. Latin Explosion dance troupe was featured and showed how the african culture influenced latin dance.
Durham Wellness and Physical Education Center Grand Opening was held on February 18. A brief program with ceremonial ribbon cutting was held at 2:30pm. The Open House was held through 5:00pm. which included self-guided tours of the facility, complimentary snacks, music, and a Special Surprise Gift.
On January 26, 2016, MCC Alumni Day was held at McLaren Regional Medical Center. All three shifts of alumni at McLaren had the opportunity to join MCC in the conference room for a reception with refreshments and giveaways. Three people from each shift won giveaway bags and Monica Thompson won the Dale’s Natural Health Foods gift certificate!
On January 15, 2016, MCC Alumni Day was held at Hurley Medical Center. All three shifts of alumni at Hurley had the opportunity to join MCC in the White Conference Room for a reception with refreshments and giveaways. Three people from each shift won giveaway bags and Chad Van Brocklin won the Sagano gift certificate!
On January 14, 2016, the 37th Annual City Wide Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Dinner was held featuring keynote speaker the Honorable Tracy Collier-Nix of the 68th District Court. The event was sponsored by Baker College of Flint, Davenport University, HealthPlus of Michigan, Kettering University, MLive Media Group/Flint Journal, Mott Community College, and University of Michigan-Flint.
On December 9, 2015, MCC Alumni Day was held at Genesys Health System in Grand Blanc. All three shifts of alumni at Genesys had the opportunity to join MCC in the auditorium for food and a presentation. Pam Martin won the Sagano gift certificate!
On December 4, 2015, MCC alumni went to The Palace of Auburn Hills for the Pistons game.
On November 5, a showcase dinner was held at Applewood Cafe highlighting MCC’s culinary arts program and fine arts program. Dinner featured Cherry Beet Soup with Red Lentils & Anise, Broccoli, Chicken & Cheddar Strudel, Lemon-Lime Mousse with Black Currant Sorbet, and Rolls. A music recital was given by students Shelby Towns on Violin and David McEachern on Euphonium & Tuba, accompanied by Andrea Floden, Adjunct Instructor. Student ambassador for the evening was Tanya Ziacan. Among the dinner guests were several community members and Board members.
The Foundation for MCC Board member and Immediate Former Chair Jimmy King was recently honored for his role in fundraising. The Mid Michigan Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals celebrated National Philanthropy Day by recognizing the impact that philanthropy has made on the Great Lakes Bay region. One of the honorees was The Foundation for MCC Board's Jimmy King, who received the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award in Freeland, Michigan on November 2, 2015. Jimmy is the chair of The Foundation's Fundraising Committee and is a past Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. He has served on numerous boards in the area. Recently Jimmy led the Fundraising Committee's efforts to pay special tribute to the Honorable Dale E. Kildee for 36 years of service to the local community.
On October 8, MCC and its Alumni Association honored this year’s recipients of the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award: Jane Bingham, Ph.D., Susan Goering, Ed.D., Ronald I. Sutliff, Ph.D., and Dean Yeotis. Also honored that evening was Outstanding Retiree Award recipient Rajagopal Shantaram, Ph.D.
The Foundation for MCC, Alumni Association, and Women In Education (WIE) program sponsored tables at the Student Fall Rally held on September 30. Along with brochures on programs and scholarships available, students were able to catch prizes in a Cash Cube game.
At the Foundation’s Full Board meeting on September 24, a major donor was recognized for their gift of property made in memory of Leo and Betty Fawcett.
The Foundation for MCC recognized its planned giving donors and major annual giving donors at the annual Heritage Society dinner held this year at The Cork on Saginaw on September 23. Thank you for your support, donors!
A Welcome Back Breakfast for all employees was held on 9/3/15, which included the kick-off of the Foundation's We Are 1 Campaign. (2nd shift employees enjoyed an evening reception on 9/2/15.)
