Political science studies governmental institutions and the political behavior of groups and individuals. It seeks to answer questions such as: What makes some countries go to war with one another? Why do some people join terrorist groups? How is the policy making process different in Presidential systems than in Parliamentary systems? What is democracy and what makes a "just" society? The Political Science program at Mott is designed to introduce students to the major questions that define the field and the methodologies used to analyze these questions. In addition, by emphasizing the role and duties of the citizen, the program will familiarize students with the workings of government and contemporary political life so that they are able to approach the political realm with greater sophistication.
A degree with a concentration in Political Science offers many career opportunities. Career Coach allows you to explore different career options for the degree you are pursuing. You can even take a look at each job title to see an in-depth overview, salary, job growth, and live job postings.
Degree Pathways outline one possible sequence of courses students may complete to fulfill their degree requirements as full-time students over the course of two years.
