Degree Description

Anthropology is the study of humankind throughout time and space. Since the existence of humans is both complex and deep, anthropologists require a breadth of knowledge that is gained from studies in the social and natural sciences as well as from the humanities. In general, anthropologists specialize in one of four subfields within the discipline (sociocultural anthropology, physical/biological anthropology, archaeology or linguistic anthropology) and often further specialize within a subfield. The Anthropology Program at Mott is designed to offer students their first encounter with three of the major subfields while pairing courses outside of the discipline that will help them explore the various connections between anthropology and other fields. Students of Anthropology can expect to have to continue their studies beyond Mott to earn an advanced degree (MA, PhD) depending on their area of interest and career goals.
