At Mott Community College, we provide a strong educational foundation in the field of cosmetology, nail technology and esthetics. Under the supervision of licensed and experienced instructors, students receive expert guidance and techniques necessary to service a diverse population. Students also learn the science of hair, skin, and nails, as well as the chemistry of products and the latest trends in beauty. Graduates from Transitions School of Cosmetology Careers will possess the knowledge and practical skills to successfully pass state board exams and pursue a variety of career paths in the industry.

This degree is designed to provide the industry professional with additional business and management skills necessary to help establish and grow a successful small business. The program will cover business administration, marketing and sales, human resources, financial management, and customer service. Students with a current State of Michigan Cosmetology or Barber license will receive 22 credits towards their degree.
Curriculum for this one-year program covers hair cutting and styling, coloring techniques, skincare, nail care, safety practices, and more. Students also learn the chemistry and application of industry products. This program provides the required 1500 hours of specialized instruction necessary to pass the State Board of Cosmetology License Exam. Students gain practical experience in a professional salon environment with real clients from the community. Training includes job shadowing, educational field trips and mock interviews.
Our state-licensed program is designed to train individuals who are interested in becoming a cosmetology educator. The program covers both theoretical and practical aspects of teaching, as well as advanced training in classroom techniques and skills. Subjects include instructional methods, curriculum development, laws & regulation, and business skills. Students are prepared for careers in teaching at public or private cosmetology schools, educational management, working as a platform artist, demonstrator, product educator or state board examiner.

Become a licensed nail technician in one semester! This 15-week program provides the required 400 hours of specialized instruction and application of skills necessary to pass the state board exams in Nail Technology. Subjects include nail anatomy, sanitation and hygiene, manicures, pedicure, and various nail enhancements. This certificate also includes business education to assist new industry professionals in their career.
Earn a certificate in Esthetics, one of the fastest growing fields. This 15-week program provides the required 400 hours of specialized instruction and application of skills necessary to pass the state board exams. Classes typically cover a range of topics related to skin care, including the anatomy of the skin, skin disorders, and techniques for providing various treatments and services. Students also learn the latest in healthy skin care and the necessary business education to assist in building their career. Classes are in high demand and fill quickly each semester!
