Hair Care Salon Management - Associate in Applied Science Degree

Cosmetology

This degree is designed to provide the prospective hair care professional with the additional business and management skills necessary to help establish a successful small business. The hair care professional with a current State of Michigan Cosmetology or Barber license will be granted 22 credits to apply to this program.

Cosmetology

This state licensed program provides the required 1500 hours of specialized instruction and application of skills necessary to pass the State Board of Cosmetology License Exam. Students gain practical experience in a professional salon environment with real clients. Training includes job shadowing, educational field trips and mock interviews.

  • Schedule Options:
    • Full Time (daytime) – 5 days per week, 7 hours per day
      1 year to completion with good attendance
      Classes start Fall, Winter and Spring semesters

Cosmetology/Nail Technology/Esthetics Instructor

This state licensed program provides the required 300 hours for the Nail Technology & Esthetics Instructor, 500 hours for the Cosmetology Instructor and specialized instruction necessary to prepare for the Michigan State Board Instructor's licensing exam. This course prepares students for many careers: in teaching in public or private cosmetology/nail technology schools, owning or managing a school, platform artist, demonstrator, product educator or state board examiner.

Nail Technology and Salon Management


This state licensed program provides for the required 400 hours of specialized instruction and application of skills necessary to pass the State Board exams for a Specialty License in Nail Technology. This state licensed program provides for the required 400 hours of specialized instruction and application of skills necessary to pass the State Board exams for a Specialty License in esthetics. This certificate offers the latest in esthetics and the necessary business education to assist the esthetician in their business and career.

Under the guidance and supervision of licensed, competent instructors, the curriculum will provide superior and innovative education in all aspects of hair, nails and skin care for a diverse population. Students who graduate from Transitions will possess knowledge and practical experience to successfully pass the state board exams and to provide all services in a healthy and safe environment, following guidelines from the State board of cosmetology, the Health Department and Mott Community College.
