Associate in Science
Chemistry is the science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed, the investigation of their properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change, and the use of these processes to form new substances. Success in chemistry requires a firm grounding across the sciences but especially in physics, mathematics and biology. In addition to the chemistry courses required for all chemistry majors, the MCC chemistry curriculum also offers courses in the analysis of environmental pollutants and forensic chemistry. Under the direction of full-time chemistry faculty, interested students have the opportunity to perform original research and submit results for publication. Students taking part in research will also have the opportunity to forge bonds with faculty at local universities as many of the projects involve interacting with chemistry faculty at a four-year university. Chemistry is known as the Central Science because all science is ultimately related to chemistry. The broad applicability of phenomena and the rigorous methodology of chemistry provide a wide range of careers for chemistry majors. Many of our graduates have careers in medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy, chemistry, engineering and teaching as well as many others.
A degree with a concentration in Chemistry-Chemical Engineering offers many career opportunities. Career Coach allows you to explore different career options for the degree you are pursuing. You can even take a look at each job title to see an in-depth overview, salary, job growth, and live job postings.
Degree Pathways outline one possible sequence of courses students may complete to fulfill their degree requirements as full-time students over the course of two years.
