The employer sponsored Apprenticeship Program is designed for those who have the desire and ambition to achieve higher goals. It prepares individuals to become certified Skilled Tradespersons. The Apprentice Program pays while you learn and, upon completion, provides a way for newly graduated journeypersons to achieve higher pay, greater job satisfaction and even point the way to additional career opportunities.
Placement in apprenticeship programs is at the discretion of employers, MCC does not place students into apprenticeships. Completing courses at MCC can improve the chances of getting an apprenticeship.
At the end of the apprenticeship, all registered apprentices receive a nationally recognized credential.
Company sponsored training can be available in the following areas:
The Citywide Apprentice Committee is a consortium, whose membership consist of UAW union local Apprentice committee members, GM management local Apprentice committee members, from area UAW/GM facilities and Mott Community College staff members. This committee meets monthly to discuss Training & Developmental needs that are related to Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Program and the apprentices working in these facilities. The monthly meetings are an open forum to discuss individual plant needs and/or issues. It is also an opportunity to discuss with the Mott Community College staff any educational concerns associated with the apprenticeship process. Often in attendance are representatives from the Department of Labor and other occasional guests. This is an ongoing collaboration to improve the educational opportunities for apprentices within these apprenticeships.
