Sunni Samuels-Larry - Faculty - Mathematics

A famous quote remarks that "Teaching is the profession that teaches all other professions". Being a teacher of mathematics allows for me to not only teach my subject but to assist others in their quest to learn how to think. Teaching mathematics consists of making difficult concepts more accessible to students. I attempt to make the material manageable while remaining true to the content. I believe that students who are able to make sense of the basic ideas present within mathematics will have the opportunity to make connections to topics in future classes which will improve their chance for success.

I was born and raised in the phenomenal and resilient city of Flint, Michigan. I am a proud graduate of Flint Central High School. From there I had the pleasure of earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education from South Carolina State University and a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Mathematics from the University of Maryland at College Park.

My employment background ranges from high school mathematics teaching and program coordination to algebra state test preparation and scoring for the state of Maryland to high school training for teachers in Montgomery County, Maryland. In the past I have also taught for Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, Baker College of Flint, and for DeVry University online.

I am currently a full-time mathematics instructor with Mott Community College. I live with my husband, two children, and cat in Grand Blanc, Michigan. In my spare time I enjoy reading, travelling, and trying new restaurants.

I look forward getting acquainted with each of you this semester.
