As Mott Community College nears its 90th anniversary (Flint Junior College est. 1923), our number of alumni continues to swell well beyond 65,000 strong. Do our alumni have an affinity to Mott Community College? Do they consider it their alma mater? The Board of the Directors of Mott's Alumni Association believes many of our former students have strongly positive feelings towards the institution that provided a great start for their academic careers if not professional careers after graduation.
The board is comprised of well-known leaders from throughout the community, from judges to professors, from CEOs to community activists. All are proud and committed to Mott College – and more importantly to Mott College students. What began in 1989 has flourished to become a very active and committed board of directors with a full slate of activities designed to address needs of students as well as the Mott campuses.
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of our former students with the Distinguished Alumni Dinner, to raise scholarship money with the annual Mott, Motown & More Lip Sync Extravaganza, to honor our newest members with a Graduation Dance. It is an honor to serve the school and the community with this amazing Board.
I feel privileged to have been a student and equally privileged to be an alumni of an institution that values and actively encourages alumni to remain engaged in the day-to-day life – and future – of the college. Time spent in pursuit of higher education is understood to be transformative. The exposure to new ideas, people and perspectives changes the way you see yourself, the world, and your place in it. That was certainly true of my student experience; but what I had not contemplated during my time at Mott was that my years as an alumna could be equally as impactful. The Alumni Association provides wonderful opportunities to stay connected with the college and with other alumni who – like MCC students – are inquisitive and adventurous, honest and engaging, and generous in their support of the people and places important to them.
I believe this Board of Directors and the many active alumni truly understand we are stewards of the college. I am proud to be part of a team that generously supports college activities and priorities financially and with our time, expertise, and enthusiasm. We truly want to provide current and prospective students with information and advice, and create opportunities for fellow alums to meet, build relationships, and reconnect with the college. We understand that many of us will likely one day return to Mott as members of the faculty and staff, trustees, and parents.
If you share our affinity for Mott Community College, we have a place for you! Join us at the table. We have a seat saved for you.
