Mott Community College Workforce Development is offering a variety of Health Care Professional Training Programs. Although the US economy remains sluggish and the overall job market has not improved, the demand for health care staff and professionals is growing at a staggering rate. These factors have created enormous job opportunities for individuals trained in leading health care professions. Available to both working adults interested in a new career and current health care professionals, these exciting programs will help students prepare for the numerous jobs available to health care staff and professionals! Mott Community College will offer Pharmacy Technician, Accelerated Medical Assistant (24 Weeks), Medical Administrative Assistant (24 weeks) , Certified Nurse Aide Program (8 weeks) and Pharmacy Technician (12 weeks) and other programs – which include some of the fastest growing careers in the health care industry today!

Healthcare Professional Programs
Accelerated Medical Assistant Today's medical practice needs health care professionals who posses both administrative and clinical skills (front and back office). Health care professionals who can process incoming patients, manage medical billing processes, code on-going medical procedures for third party insurance draw blood and read EKG results are a diverse and invaluable resource to the medical practice. In response to the growing need for health care professionals with multiple skills, the "Medical Assistant Program" is designed to give students the skills needed to be successful as a medical assistant. Students completing this program qualify to take the National Certification Exam for Registered Medical Assistants/RMA. THIS IS AN ACCELERATED PROGRAM.

Bridges to Home Health Aide The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Bridge to Home Health Aide (HHA) training program will prepare students who are CNAs to become care givers in a home setting. This 24-hour program prepares students to function more independently without the immediate resource of a supervisor on site. It prepares students to work in private households, assisted living facilities, and elder care programs, servicing the ever-growing population of individuals receiving care in their homes (elderly, adults and children with physical and/or mental disabilities). The CNA bridges to HHA course content includes orientation to home health aide services and the role of HHA; communication skills, understanding death and dying; understanding physical, emotional and developmental needs; practical knowledge and skills in home management including meal planning, modified diets, shopping and food preparation, basic infection control in home setting, light housekeeping and laundry chores; and assisting client with self administration of medications. The aim of this course is to challenge CNAs to look at health care a different way, i.e. in a home setting. This course will also include standard first aid and CPR training and certification (American Red Cross). The National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) offers national certification for personal and home health aides. CNAs successfully completing the course are eligible to take the exam.

Certified Nurse Aide Program This Michigan approved Nurse Aide Training program will prepare students to become registered as a C.N.A. This is a 120-hour program consisting of classroom, laboratory and clinical practice that prepares students to work in today's hospitals and extended care facilities. This course prepares the students to provide basic nursing or nursing related care primarily to patients in extended care facilities. Students completing this course are eligible to take the State Clinical and Written Competency tests.

Home Health Aide The Home Health Aide (HHA) training program will prepare students to become care givers in a home setting. This 120-hour program consists of classroom lecture and laboratory practice that prepares students to service the ever-growing population of individuals receiving care in their homes (elderly, adults and children with physical and/or mental disabilities). Students will be taught home care and patient care skills and must demonstrate competency in the same.
The HHA course content includes training in areas of routine personal healthcare, such as bathing, dressing, or grooming; monitoring patients' blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, and respiration rate; range of motion exercise and ambulation, safe transfer techniques and positioning. Students will explore orientation to home health aide services and the role of HHA; communication skills, understanding death and dying; understanding physical, emotional and developmental needs; practical knowledge and skills in home management including meal planning, modified diets, shopping and food preparation, basic infection control in home setting, light housekeeping and laundry chores; and assisting client with self administration of medications. Medical Administrative Secretary Medical Administrative Secretary is an important part of the medical office staff. A Medical Administrative Secretary work most of their time in the "front" office of a physician office, clinic or hospital. They perform secretarial duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology, and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. The medical administrative assistant (specialist) is competent in medical records management, insurance processing, coding and billing, management of practice finances, information processing, and fundamental office management tasks. A medical administrative Secretary must be outgoing, patient, have a sincere desire to help people and pay attention to detail.
The Medical Administrative Secretary duties include:
• Handling and answering external as well as internal phone calls and transferring calls to the appropriate departments.
• Managing patient's appointments, according to the doctor's schedule.
• Giving registration forms to the patients and getting all the necessary information filled from them.
• Schedule and confirm patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries and medical consultations
• Handling data entry tasks.
• Registration, filing and maintenance of medical records and documents.
• Maintaining financial records and performing accounting tasks.
• Initiating and maintaining correspondence with patients and insurance companies.
• Explaining hospital admission procedures to the patients.
• Maintaining records of purchased equipment and other medical supplies.
• Processing medical insurance claims, medical billing and electronic claims, and incorporating correct coding procedures.
This 24 weeks certificate programs includes 600 contact hours in classroom time and a 160 externship for a total of 760 hours. Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to take the certification exam. American Medical Technologist (AMT) is the national credential agency that will administers the certification exam. Students who successfully pass the certification exam will be a Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS).

Pharmacy Technician This comprehensive 12 week course will prepare students to work as a technician under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in the hospital or other health care settings. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, billing and reimbursement. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam.
