As the Medical Simulation Specialist at Mott’s Institute for Medical Simulation, Karen is invaluable in providing a realistic training environment for healthcare providers of all levels, including nurses, nursing assistants, EMS, medical residents and members of the community. By applying her expertise in scenario development and programming, she creates a unique training experience for each trainee, whether in Mott’s state of the art simulation lab or mobile simulation environment. Prior to joining the Mott team, Karen was the medical simulation coordinator, facilitator and programmer responsible for training nursing students at Macomb Community College. She is a certified American Heart Association instructor for BLS for Healthcare Providers and Heartsaver CPR AED courses. Karen received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, and Certificate in Computer Information Systems from Oakland Community College. Currently, she is enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Simulation Education program at BryanLGH College of Health Sciences, Nebraska.

Brian Rasmeussen

Brian graduated from Mott Community College with an AAS in Computer Information Systems. He began working in medical simulation in 2007, working with MCC nursing students before moving to the IMS in 2009. He is experienced programming, operating and maintaining equipment from all the major manufacturers, and he has contributed to the design of scenarios for all levels of learners. Brian completed his BSIT through Western Governors University.
