The MCC Scholarship Program

MCC understands that financing your education can be difficult. Scholarships in addition to other types of aid may relieve some of the financial burden.

Internal Scholarships

All scholarships from the Foundation for Mott Community College require the following:

  • Applicants must have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with MCC.
  • All scholarships require a completed application, biography, and essay.
    • Essays should include the following information: your educational goals and career goals, how receipt of this scholarship will help you to obtain those goals, and any other scholarship specific criteria (see individual scholarship descriptions).
    • Biographies should include the following information: descriptions of any community service or extra-curricular activities you have been involved in, explanation of relevant work experience, information on any honors/awards you have received.
  • Some scholarships also have additional required information, which will be listed under the scholarship description below.
  • If the GPA requirement is met through a high school or other higher education institution, copy of transcripts must be submitted with the application.
  • Students must meet the GPA and Completion Rate components of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
  • If a scholarship is awarded, enrollment in minimum credit hour requirement must be met before funds will be received.

**Scholarship awarding is based on availability of funds. Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. Submittal of a complete application does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded.

Adam Ryan McIntosh (a.k.a. OPIE) Scholarship

Award Amount:$500

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours.
  • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Applicant must be in the Automotive Technology Program.

African American Male Book Scholarship

Award Amount:Based on the total cost for textbooks

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours.
  • Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Applicant must be an African American male.

Arab American Heritage Council Scholarship

Award Amount:Varies

  • Applicant must be of Arabic descent.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours.
  • Applicant must possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.

Donald E. Ewles Criminal Justice Scholarship

Award Amount:$1,000

  • Applicant must be a resident of Genesee County.
  • Applicant must have an articulation agreement on file where LERTA is being used to obtain an Associate degree in Criminal Justice.
  • Applicant must possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 at Mott.
  • Applicant must include a letter(s) of reference from an instructor(s) and/or other professional(s) that speaks to Applicants: community service and/or contributions to the community, leadership skills in and out of the classroom, effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Applicant must indicate in a cover letter his/her long term goals in the field of Criminal Justice.
  • Scholarship is awarded fall and winter semesters only.

Frank Friedman Special Education Scholarship

Award Amount:$500

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours.
  • Applicant must possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a program leading to work with individuals with physical or mental challenges.

Stephen and Rosanne Heddy Scholarship Endowment Agreement

Award Amount:Varies

  • Applicants must be a resident of Genesee County and attending Mott Community College.
  • Applicants must be a custodial parent, and working full or part time jobs while seeking the opportunity to improve his/her life and that of his/her families by earning a degree.
  • Applicant must be a single parent in the healthcare field.
  • Award will be based on financial need as determined by Financial Aid.
  • Scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books and/or supplies and may be renewable.
  • Students must apply using the appropriate application system via the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Applicants will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee which will be comprised of donors for selection of the recipient(s).
  • Funds will be disbursed through Mott Community College Financial Aid Office.

The Deen Project

Award Amount:$500

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours.
  • Applicant must possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.

Ben & Edna Diehl Scholarship

Award Amount:Varies

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours
  • Applicant must posses a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
  • Applicant must be pursuing co-operative education; preference given to students pursuing secretarial and/or office management
  • Applicant must have financial need as determined by Financial Aid Office.

John K. Krupp Scholarship

Award Amount:Varies

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours
  • Applicant must posses a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 if currently enrolled.  If a new student, GPA is not required.
  • Applicant must show interest in pursuing Accounting as career goal or should be enrolled or planning to enroll in the Accounting program
  • Applicant must have financial need as determined by Financial Aid Office.
  • Preference will be given to students who are either in their 2nd year of Accounting classes at MCC or who are matriculating to Cleary University's 3+1 program

Dr. Patricia Montpas Memorial Scholarship

Award Amount:$2,000

  • Applicant must be enrolled in at least (6) credit hours
  • Must be seeking re-entry into the Nursing Program at MCC after failing or withdrawing from a nursing course.
  • Must write an essay describing the personal hardship that led to the failure or withdrawal in a nursing course. Must expand on how you will be more successful if allowed re-entry into the nursing program.
  • Must have financial need as determined by Financial Aid Office.

External Scholarships

MCC partners with local foundations and organization to help promote and identify students that should apply or may be eligible for one of their scholarships. Two of the foundations MCC is currently partnered with:

The Community Foundation for Greater Flint

The Alan J. Ferrari Scholarship
The family of Alan J. Ferrari has established a fund in the Community Foundation of Greater Flint; which now provides the funds to award yearly scholarships. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average or better in order to apply for this scholarship.
Dr. Clement A. Alfred Dental Hygiene School Humanitarian Award Fund for Dental Hygiene Students
The Dr. Clement A. Alfred Humanitarian Award Fund will provide support for a scholarship to a MCC dental hygiene student. The purposes of this fund is to: a) provide an annual award to a Flint area health professional who evidences the kind of commitment to professionalism, integrity, and humanitarian goals as has Dr. Alfred throughout his life, and b) provide an annual scholarship to a Dental Hygiene student at MCC.

The McLaren Foundation

Stacey Braden-Brown, R.N. Nursing Scholarship
$1,000 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at MCC or UM-Flint, and preference is given to individuals who are single parents and/or had an interruption in their education.
Aretha Brock, L.P.N. Nursing Scholarship
$1,000 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at MCC or UM-Flint.
Jonathan Mays Nurse Aide Scholarship
$1,000 award given to a student pursuing a Nurse Aid education at MCC, and preference is given to individuals who are single parents and/or had an interruption in their education.
Mary Alice Moore, R.N. Nursing Scholarship
$1,000 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at MCC or UM-Flint.
Patti Sherry, R.N. Memorial Nursing Scholarship
$1,000 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at MCC or UM-Flint, and preference is given to individuals who have taken care of cancer patients (including family member) or have been cancer patients themselves.

Trustee's Leadership Scholarship Overview

Trustee Scholar and Trustee John Snell, Jr. D.V.M.

In order to encourage academically talented leaders to begin their college education at Mott Community College the Board of Trustees established a Trustees' Leadership Scholarship that is awarded to one graduating senior from each high school within the College's district


Selection Criteria:
  • A College district high school graduate by June 1st of each year. Nominations must be from a high school administrator and nominations must be received by April 1st.

  • Academic achievement. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.

  • Leadership and other abilities demonstrated through school or community activity that support the student's overall potential to succeed. Examples would include a leadership position in a school council, team sport or school activity.

  • Interest in attending Mott Community College. Mott is particularly eager to support students who plan to attend MCC for two years.

  • This scholarship is to be utilized in the academic year immediately following graduation and is limited to only Fall and Winter semesters up to a total of 31 credits for the academic year.

  • The Trustees Leadership Scholarship is renewable for a second consecutive academic year dependent upon the achieving a 2.75 (or higher) grade point average and meeting standards of academic progress.
